Don’t forget to vote!

by Simon Dodd on 2 May, 2012

It’s polling day tomorrow (Thursday) – don’t forget to vote! Your vote will help elect the next city councillor for the Hilsea area. Please do vote for me – as a Liberal Democrat I will make a real difference for Hilsea. Already the Liberal Democrats on Portsmouth council have achieved much for the local area, […]

Comparing local councils

by Simon Dodd on 1 May, 2012

I saw a great comparison of services offered by local councils that I thought I’d share. Portsmouth city council (run by the Lib Dems) has the lowest council tax in the area which has been frozen for three years – lower than Fareham council, Gosport council, Havant council and the Isle of Wight council (all […]

North End redevelopment

by Simon Dodd on 18 April, 2012

It’s great to see the redevelopment of the North End shopping area taking shape. This is a good move by our council and hopefully the work, including wider pavements, will mean this is a much pleasanter area to shop and visit and kickstart the revitalisation of the area.  It certainly looks better already in my […]

Work at the new splash pool at Hilsea Lido is set to be finished at the end of this month – this means that it will definitely be open for this summer! And, even better, the Council are looking at whether the splash pool can be opened for the Easter holidays! I’ve also been told […]

by Simon Dodd on 26 February, 2012

A new indoor tennis centre is set to be built at the Mountbatten Centre, jointly paid for by our local council and the Lawn Tennis Association. This is going to be a brilliant centre, bringing a top-quality tennis facility to our city! I can’t wait to see it completed!

Half term swimming

by Simon Dodd on 6 February, 2012

As part of our council’s investment in sport for children, subsidised swimming lessons are going to be available at the Mountbatten Centre this half term. This is a fantastic scheme that the council are offering and is just part of a 2012 plan to give children across our city opportunities to try out Olympic sports close to home. Learning to swim […]

Vascular surgeons to stay at QA!

by Simon Dodd on 2 February, 2012

It’s just been announced that the vital vascular surgeons based at our local hospital are staying!  There had been plans to move the surgeons, who perform life-saving surgery on blood vessels, from Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital to Southampton.  But our local campaign to keep the surgeons in Portsmouth has been successful – this morning it […]
