It’s polling day tomorrow (Thursday) – don’t forget to vote! Your vote will help elect the next city councillor for the Hilsea area. Please do vote for me – as a Liberal Democrat I will make a real difference for Hilsea. Already the Liberal Democrats on Portsmouth council have achieved much for the local area, […]

Comparing local councils

by Simon Dodd on 1 May, 2012

I saw a great comparison of services offered by local councils that I thought I’d share. Portsmouth city council (run by the Lib Dems) has the lowest council tax in the area which has been frozen for three years – lower than Fareham council, Gosport council, Havant council and the Isle of Wight council (all […]

by Simon Dodd on 28 April, 2012

Another of Portsmouth’s Conservative city councillor’s has joined the Lib Dems.  Sarah Dinenage this week quit the Tories to join the local Liberal Democrat team.  Sarah is the sister of Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport. Sarah thinks the Lib Dems are the best option for Portsmouth and believes we are running the city well.  As […]

I’ve been very lucky to be shown round the new splash pool at Hilsea Lido by Lee Hunt, the Lib Dem councillor in charge of leisure and culture in the city.  And it looks great!  Kids are going to absolutely love playing there in the summer! Work on the splash pool is just about finished […]

Less tax to be paid

by Simon Dodd on 21 March, 2012

Great news in today’s national budget – thanks to Lib Dem influence in Government, hardworking people will see their tax bills cut substantially as the personal allowance is increased. The personal allowance (the amount of income that can be earned before tax needs to be paid) was already set to increase next month to £8105 (from […]

Tory councillor no show

by Simon Dodd on 20 March, 2012

The annual budget meeting is the most important city council meeting of the year – it’s where all the council’s spending priorities for the year are decided. It’s really disappointing therefore to discover that one of the area’s conservative councillors wasn’t at this year’s budget meeting (held last month) to stand up for Hilsea (that […]

Weekly bin collections to stay!

by Simon Dodd on 14 March, 2012

It’s good to see that our Lib Dem-run council is keeping weekly bin collections in the city. Unlike neighbouring towns, we’ll continue to have rubbish collected every week.  This is great news – it’s good to see the council listening to what residents want
